燕京老去的繁华


早在燕京还没被翻新之前,她已经是牛干冬(Chulia Street)上一个别致的景色。那个色彩缤纷又古色古香的宅门总让人有无限遐想……

翻新后,这酒店保留了中国建筑及南洋风情,餐厅前那写着Yeng Keng Cafe的玻璃窗有着牛仔味道。我很轻易的,就这样子,再而三地被骗进去了……

虽然牛干冬停车不方便,但酒店有个小小停车场。我好几次周末到访都可以轻易的在这儿找到泊车位子。

这餐厅以南洋海南餐为主(南洋海南和中国海南美食当然有所不同,以前南来的海南人多是洋人家的厨师或管家,久而久之在南洋演变出一道道独特的美味)。主厨是个看起来很有江湖地位的老先生(好几次看见他出来向食客问好,下次得找机会和他合照。),想必这儿的南洋海南美食应该非常传统吧?

我必须重点介绍的是这儿的chicken pie。派皮香脆可口,牛油味浓郁(嘻嘻,对我而言,但凡有浓浓牛油味的食物自动先加十分),馅料多而汁香浓。赞哦!

Eng Loh Kopitiam


Surprisingly, if you google Penang breakfast or Georgetown breakfast, Eng Loh kopitiam will sure at the top 5 list. However, if you ask Penang lang, I'm sure this kopitiam is not in most of their top 3 favorite place for breakfast. It is not bad, but just not as crazily loved by Penang lang.

Anyway, I have to attend a class in Georgetown few weeks back, and Eng Loh came into my mind since it is quite near with the training venue.

This kopitiam is famous for its coffee and the various Western style of toasts and sandwiches. However, I was not in the mood for something too fancy so I had a set of butter kaya toast. Nice, but when come to toast, Toh Soon is still my favorite.



We ordered a bowl of "gon lou mee" that come with 5 fishballs, a piece of chai koay and a plate of "wan tan mee". Both "gon lou mee" and chai koay are just so so, but the wan tan mee is quite good. I love the homemade-style-char sioh, and the peppery noodle. The wan tan mee stall has many other specialties too but all not available on the day we visit.


If you are bringing tourist, or you'd love to have breakfast at some place with authenticity, you'll find the aging ambience of this kopitiam lovely.

Chew Jetty Cafe


Chew Jetty Cafe is a small, decent kopitiam at the entrance of Chew Jetty. We were there aiming for the 'balitong', 'chee ya hu' and 'lala' but by the time we reached there (around 6:45pm), the "chu char" stall said all the seafood were sold out. Guess we have to come back again next round for the balitong.

Anyway, we are happy to have our dinner there. The char koay teow, lor mee and nasi lemak are good and cheap. Next time we shall try the koay teow th'ng and wan tan mee too!

Derek's Passion for Food

Derek's is a hidden gem in Kulim, hiding at a decent housing estate. We have been there several times but I never bring my camera along and my handphone camera can't do justice to this nice restaurant. So, after years of eating in this nice little restaurant, this is the first time I want to blog about it :)

This restaurant is operated by a very experience chef who was previously working around the world. The semi-D-converted restaurant is cozy and normally quite (unless you are unlucky to go to the restaurant on the same night with our huge group). This is one of my favorite spot for company small group function when we need good halal food and privacy,
The chef has a very simple menu. Having say so, he already covered lamb, beef, chicken and seafood so it is good enough for me. By adding RM7, you can convert your ala-carte to set meal, which include soup of the day, desserts (fruits/ice creams), and tea/coffee.


On our most recent visit, we had pumpkin soup, mushroom soup, chicken chop, various spaghetti, mini steak etc, which almost cover every items on the menu. I had to say, for the price range (each main course cost between RM15~RM30), the food quality is not bad at all.

终于从脚车上跌下来了

好多人坚持学脚车必定要跌倒才算真正经历了学脚车的过程。我以为自己与众不同,但我终于如大家所愿,从脚车上跌下来了。


话说那天,和美美约好了九点骑脚车,然后十点半到Auto City和雪萍一起吃早餐。谁知道飞机女皇再次临阵改变计划不赴约了,我们俩也就把骑脚车的时间稍微延后,美美又把车子送到车厂维修,我们近十点才终于到达运动场练习骑脚车。

我们把脚车推到竞跑跑道上(贪它比草地平稳),然后绕着转。我开始时还非常用心,肌肉精神紧绷的,专心一意维持平衡。但我在绕了几圈后精神开始松懈下来,一不在意就开始神游,想着一些最近正困扰我的事儿,想着想着,突然间我还不知发生什么事,就已经连人带车翻滚在地上了,嘴还轻轻吻了大地一下,搞得满口鲜血,把美美给吓呆了。(现在手脚全是瘀伤,像被人虐待似的)

最糟糕的是,这一跌,群星乱舞,整个世界泛白。美美看我连唇都白了,吓都给我吓死。我只能坐在水沟旁休息。不久后,我对于自己久久不能恢复正常觉得有点儿意外,她叫我躺下休息,我却怕自己一睡不起,结果又把脉、又按摩的,搞了老半天才想起可能是已经十五个小时没进食导致血糖过低,只好很扫兴的把美美拉离现场,吃早餐去。食物进肚子不久,泛白的世界终于恢复正常,脸终于有血色。

我以自己三脚猫的医学常识,觉得这是跌倒后adrenaline rush,全身紧急机能全被启动,体内储藏的能量却不足,于是脑袋发现主体安全后立刻松懈,能量用尽而血糖骤跌。这,真是自食其果了。

第一次上路


话说我学会踏脚车后的第四天,我因某些特别原因而把脚车扛到乔治市去。在完全没有复习的情况下,我再一次上脚车,这一上,我就上马路了。
身边那些看我摇摇晃晃的要么就尖叫,要么使尽办法阻我前路。骑不了300米,我的脚车就被充公了。
下一次吧,下一次一定要好好地复习,找个机会快快上路!
